Life in Oz!
Vacation is officially over :( I had to go to my first class at 10am. It was Applications in Social and Community work. We went over the course outline and I think it will be beneficial for me to take it. We will be discussing what community work is and the role of community workers, working in groups, needs analysis, strategic planning, evaluation, lobbying, social action and applying for grants, inclusive practice, conflict resolution and achieving good practice. It makes me nervous that the only grades we get are from a short essay (30%), a group presentation (40%) and a take home exam (30%). Next week I will have the tutorial for the class right after the lecture. The tutorials are 15-20 people, it is more discussion based, and usually where you give presentations and hand in homework for the class. Almost every class had a tutorial that you have to take with it. I was going to buy my books after class but the line was so long that they weren't even letting anyone into the bookstore until some people left. I decided to skip it and went to the pool instead. No one was in it so I did some laps until Joanna came and talked to me. She said she was going to Woolworths in a little while and invited me along. So I got out of the pool, got ready and had lunch but I was half asleep on the couch by the time so came by to get me so I decided not to go because I was feeling really lazy. I lay in my bed until 5, so I think I slept for 2-3 hours. I still didn't want to get up but I forced myself to and worked on my journals some more. Melinda came over and we talked and then went to her apartment and hung out there. We went for a walk, found some people by the BBQ, and hung out there most of the night. There were a bunch of people there and one guy had his guitar so we were all signing along. It was a beautiful night, I got to talk to some people I knew and also met a few new people.
