Life in Oz!
I decided to be adventurous today and take a tour around campus. It is less than a 5-minute walk and it is very pretty. Campus is on or is surrounded by a wildlife reserve. My walk is kind of marshy-like but there are flowers and different bushes to look at along the way. I walked on a few trails and took many pictures along the way. The buildings are very unique and there are many grassy areas for kangaroo watching. It took me a while to see any but I finally saw a group of four hopping around. I tried to follow them but they disappeared behind a building and I never saw them again. I then saw one just relaxing under a tree, I took a few pictures and he didn't seem to mind, he just watched me the whole time. So I said thanks and moved on to see if I could find some more. I was in luck; I found four more, much smaller ones under a few trees in the picnic area. I was really hot by this time so I headed back to campus and decided to read my book in the pavilion. I saw Tim and Andy, who are also from NDSU, and I met their roommate Melinda. We played some pool; Aussie pool balls are smaller, only red and yellow and have no numbers. We ended up hanging out most of the night. Kristy, Melinda, Tim and Andy's other roommate made tea (supper) for the four of them and they also invited Beth and I over (Beth is from NDSU). We went back to the pool after tea because that is where everyone hangs out at night (obviously). The atmosphere is great here because everyone is so friendly; it's easy to strike up a conversation with anyone in UniCentral, especially at night when we are all by the pool. I don't have any swimmers (swimsuit) yet so I ended up getting into the pool in the shorts and t-shirt I was in. They shut the pool area down by 10 or 11 so there was a big group of people that went into Mooloolaba to a club. I decide to stay and met Martin from Germany. He was a lot of fun but his accent was really heavy so he was hard to understand sometimes so I tried speaking some German but that didn't work very well. We ended up going to his Kiwi (from New Zealand) friend Shane's apartment because he was having people over. A few of us came back to my apartment and randomly people kept walking in. That's another fun thing about being here, your welcome in virtually everyone's apartment so you just walk in with out knocking. It was a fun night and I met lots of people but I only got to bed at about 4:30 and was awake by 7:15 because it was too bright in my room since the sun comes up so early.
