Soongies' Great Adventure
Christmas Day! Calvin started the day with a run on the Wirral Way while Kate had a lie in. A FaceTime to Calvin's family (who had nearly finished their Christmas) and then a FaceTime to Kate’s family (who were also getting to the end of their Christmas day). Kate was feeling pretty crook - lots of coughing and sneezing but she felt much better when eating! We had a late breakfast comprising cereal and croissants – but mostly croissants! It was then time to open all of the presents, which was a lot of fun! There were many presents to unwrap and Calvin and Kate got some great jumpers for skiing, a travelling card game, and cologne / perfume (so we don’t smell when we travel!), among others. We had a delicious traditional Christmas lunch at about 2:30 all prepared mostly by Auntie Fiona (and M&S) – a perfectly roasted turkey, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, gravy, pigs in blankets, stuffing, red cabbage, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, parsnips, carrots and brussel sprouts. Auntie Fiona was in a bit of a panic prior to lunch but she had written an excellent schedule of when everything had to go in the aga and it all turned out so well! Dessert was Christmas pudding and a white chocolate bomb cake. There was a brandy custard to go with it which Amy thought had an overly high alcohol content! We then played some board games. Andrew is the champ of Pucket however, Auntie Fiona had some Christmas magic on her side this year and actually beat Andrew twice! She was very pleased with herself but she did have a big nervous sweat while playing! We also had some musical fun – the Christmas crackers contained individual notes from a xylophone and we had lots of fun trying to team up to play some Christmas songs! It’s a lot harder than you’d think to conduct for 8 notes but it made for some comical tunes! We then finished off the night watching Love Actually (which Calvin had never seen before). Everyone else had almost memorised the movie from multiple viewings! We had more food during the movie – salmon and cream cheese rolls and turkey and cranberry rolls. Calvin definitely overate his way through Christmas! It was a wonderful Christmas day spending it with family, eating together and laughing lots.
