Soongies' Great Adventure
Early morning wake ups are a little bit better when there is some daylight around. Iceland offered a drawn out dawn at this time of the year so a 3:30 am alarm didn't seem so terrible! The hostel offered included breakfast which came with a good variety of very edible goods and beverages which were much better than Weeta-Bix. All packed up and ready to go by 4:45 am to get to Keflavik International Airport. Returning the car to Blue Car Rentals was easy enough and no damages sighted by the inspector was a good way to end the Iceland trip. A short cold and brisk walk to the terminal meant self-check in, security and customs were all completed by 5:30 am. Quite a while to wait for the flight. Iceland Air conducted a comfortable 2 hour flight to Manchester where, after a long line to get through customs, there was a happy reunion with Aunty Fiona. It wasn't a long on the road before the first stop at the biggest Marks & Spencers in all of Europe, found in Ellesmere Port. A lunch at the cafe was a nice reintroduction to British food and prices (a relief that the rest of the world doesn't cost as much as Iceland!) and a grocery shop in the food hall to replenish the food stores after the Davies' return home from Australia. Then it was home time! Well, home to our 2nd home. It's always nice to come home to the Davies' house and Uncle Richard (who was catching up on work) and, of course, Barnaby the amazing poodle (who was extremely excited!). The afternoon was spent catching up on adventures and exchanging travel stories. As it was brilliant sunny spring weather, Fiona, Calvin and Barnaby went for a walk around Thurstaston Hill and the foreshore. Kate had a little nap at home and had started preparing the ingredients for spaghetti bolognese. A wonderful dinner cooked by Aunty Fiona and eaten by Uncle Richard, Aunty Fiona, Calvin and Kate was followed by M&S Salted Caramel Cheesecake. Everyone was a little jet lagged or travel weary so it was an early night for all.
