Soongies' Great Adventure
The last day of 2016! Can't believe how much has happened this year - it's gone fast with all the planning and preparation for our year abroad. Today, Auntie Fiona and Uncle Richard were hosting a New Year's Eve dinner party with their long time friends, Jo and Andy, and their daughter, Caroline. Andrew left today to go to Kent to bring in the new year with his friends but he did give a suggestion of having a murder mystery party for dinner (as he was doing with the same with his friends). We squeezed a few rounds of Bananagrams in before Andrew had to leave for Liverpool to catch the train at noon. Uncle Richard drove him there while Auntie Fiona started preparations for the dinner. Kate and Calvin sauntered up in to the Heswall upper village to see if there were any ski gloves at Aldi. Kate got the last pair of ski gloves which cost 5 pounds! We then wandered around the village a little bit (looking at the windows of real estate agents - playing with the idea of moving to England) and over to Tesco's to pick up some goods and get some New Year's Eve flowers for Auntie Fiona. At home, Kate and Calvin started sorting out the Murder Mystery game entitled A Very Merry Christmas. It was a downloadable game with the character profiles, scripts and even some audio tracks for something different. The premise of the mystery was based around a Christmas tree magnate who was suspiciously hung from the top of his Christmas tree with industrial grade tinsel. In preparation for dinner, there were several things that needed to go into the Aga for cooking however there wasn't enough space! Fortunately, the microwave also had an oven feature which Calvin was able to figure out. We FaceTimed Kate's family (they had woken up extremely early due to the house alarm going off... Catherine) while we did a test run with the microwave oven. Jo, Andy and Caroline came over for dinner (3 courses of deliciousness and included a selection/combination of 3 desserts!) and we played the murder mystery. Kate and Calvin's characters were both accused but they weren't actually guilty! The murderer was actually Caroline - the christmas tree magnate's fiancee. Uncle Richard even put on his police helmet for a photographic moment! We brought in the New Year by the tradition of holding hands in a circle and singing Auld Lang Syne.
