Back to good old Sunday blogging again at the internet cafe in the city!
Weather is a bit nicer now - some warm sun at last!! All the Brisbane folk are desperate for rain though as they have only had 6ins in the last 5 years and we are on level 5 restrictions, if level 6 comes into effect in October, it's shower sharing time - seriously!!
Yesterday we did another tour - this time to Mt Tamborine and Lamington National Park (Sub Tropical Rainforest) We drove up 8000ft above sea level on single lane tracks where there were sheer drops at eaither side - quite nerve wracking!! We stopped first a Mt Tamborine - part of the McPherson mountain ranges where there is no mains water so everyone has water tanks outside but because of the lack of rain - they have to pay $400 for a truck load of water!!! It's in the middle of nowhere but the few houses that are there are work $1.5-$2 million !!
We stopped at a Homestaed where the owners made giant homemade scones and they have a local old lady who comes in twice a week to make rhubarb jam produced by the local farms and fresh cream - they were very good indeed - served with endless coffee and tea!! All around here is farmland which are now dying out - was mostly timber farms at one point.
We then drove onto O'Reillys at Lamington National Park where we did the tree top walk along a suspension bridge in the rainforest and then decided to climb a 30m ladder to the top of a tree to get amazing views - half way up i didn't think i'd be able to get back down as it was so steep - very scary but worth it for the views!! Lamington rainforest is huge and you really need a week to see everything but we only had 2 hours so we saw what we could in that time.
Our final stop was at O'Reilly's Winery in a tiny little place called Canungra - we had 20 mins and tried 7 different wines - went straight to my head - even tried red wines which i hate but it was free!!!
It was a great day out and worth every penny!!
We are just about to get a train to another suburb about 1/2 hr away to meet a man who we found on the internet to be selling a tent and mattress for $20 - thought it would cut accommodation costs when we do our overnight weekend trips from Brisbane as there are meant to be really nice campsites along the Sunshine & Gold Coasts - so we'll see what it's like!
Had another BBQ last bight with our flat mates which was nice - eating true Ozzie style - Iain's loving all the meat he gets at the BBQ ( though last Sunday he made sausages for himself for Brekki abd said how nice they were and when i went into the fridge he'd eaten the veggi ones by mistake and he never even noticed the difference...he, he!!)

P.S OUR LaTEST PHOTO ALBUM IS MT TAMBORINE/LAMINGTON NOT THE KOALA CENTRE (WHICH IS WHAT THE FRONT OF THE BLOG SAYS - IT'S WRONG!!) U'LL HAVE TO GO INTO PHOTOS TO FIND IT!
