Well Hello - my turn now in my lunch break
Friday
We collected our hire car after work and went to a shopping centre out of town - with my navigation & Iain's driving we found our way no problem! We did our shopping but when we came out we couldn't start the car - it was 9pm and the place was dead as only 2 shops had been open in the centre (not like back home - everything closes at 5). We the radio and everything came on but there was no sign of life in the engine - not even a click!! Decided there must be something special that u do with a Hyundai Getz - we searched for buttons and things but found nothing! The rental place had closed at 7 but hay, i found ou that the airport 1 was open so called them and the lady laughed and said that u have to dip the clutch at the same time as starting the ignition!! How were we meant to know that - they could have told us when we collected the car!
Saturday
We set off early and drove on the Glass House Mountains Tourist DRive up to the National Park. It is a range of 7 mountains which 25million years ago were volcanic plugs and ground level was higher than they are today but ground has warn away and they have remained high above sea level.
Mt Ngungun
The first Mountain we climbed was Mt Ngungun ('Aboriginal' word for 'black' and 253m above sea level) which was pretty steep and 1/2 of it we were on all 4s on crumbley sandy rocks - saw people adseiling it but we made it to the top which is a pretty uneven place with sheer drops but the views were spectacular! I went over some huge rocks to get a better view but suddenly swarms over flys were sticking to me and i was screaming and jumping - Iain was very stressed and kept shouting at me to calm down incase i fell off - but hey i'm still here!!
We then went to Point Lookout which was disappointing as you drove all the way up so there was no walking involved - good views for unenergetic people but boring for us!!
Wild Horse Lookout
The final Mountain we did out of the 7 was called Wild Horse Lookout - it was up a very steep but flat hill for about 1km but the views from the top were the best we saw as you were a good bit away from the mountains so you could see them all - only 123m above sea level. It was anmed after the Brumbies that once roamed the area but today it's a mobile telephone transmitter tower and a working fire lookout tower (we saw a park ranging checking out the bush fires when we were there)
After all that it was about lunch time so we drove to the Seaside town of Calloundra and our holiday Park at Dicky Beach (great name) to pitch our tent.
