Well what can i say we have had another fab weekend!
But before we talk about that can i just say that tonight we went running and ended up running for our life in the most amazing tropical thunder storm - an hour of lighteneing and at one point it was right above our heads and was red like fire - another runner said "we'd best get out of here" so we ran and ran all the way home - never been so wet in our lives - water was up to our ankles - mad - stopped now and will prob be no rain anywhere by the morning!
Friday we both took the day off (Iain got paid for it - me didn't!) and went on a nice walk to Kangaroo point which is the next suburb along the Brisbane river- we run along it nearly every day but you missed lots when ur running so we saw some amazig views of the city.
Anyway, over to Iain to talk about the start of his birthday weekend:
Hi all, well on Saturday C and I had to get up at 5:30 as our trip left at 7:15. C had hidden all my pressie's and cards from everyone who sent them over, I don't know how she did it but well done!!!
C got me Justin Timberlake tickets, A nice belt, Cool board shorts, Beeds and Body shop face stuff, Diane got me some nice mini Calvin Klein aftershaves for the rest of my travels to keep me smelling nice. My Aunty Wilma sent me a package with lots of scottish pressies (Jimmy hat). She also made a tape with everyone wishing me happy birthday which was really thoughtful and reminded me of home. Thanks to all. Back to C to talk about the trip:
We got in our 4wd drive with ur tour guide at the train station and then drove to the Port of Brisbane to board the ferry across to Moreton Island. At 08:30ain had his birthday Brisbane aboard the ferry which was a bottle of beer & a sausage roll! As we were coming in to dock, Iain spotted this huge brown turtle swimming in the sea - it was so cool, right next to the boat.
We got off the boat and went on a 4wd drive tour of the Island (again only 4wd can get around the Island) to see Cape Moreton Lighthouse, honeymoon Bay and a natural forming inland lake, we then stopped and had lunch on the beach with the other 6 people on our trip and the driver. After lunch we went into the sand dnes to an hour of sand surfing and body boarding - i skipped it as it was so hot and everyone was cvered in sand all stuck to their sun cream but Iain had lots of goes on both and loved the body boarding!
In the afternoon we got dropped off at the Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort which is the posh hotel resort on the island and we had a gorgeous room with a balconyo verlooking the sea. We went for a wonder and got our Dolphin feeding passes.
Dolphin Feeding: What an experience! They are wild dolphins so we hoped some would come into the shore as you never know if they will or not and a storm was brewing so it was mega windy, but about 8 came close to the shore. When then lined up to collect our fish and were warned that they had seen the waters so chopping in a while and that we'd have to swim quite far into the sea so children may not be able to do it - boy was the sea choppy! We waited in line absolutely freezing - half naked for ages and then got our fishes and a life guard to us out to sea where the waves were huge and within minutes Iain had got sucked under but he still had his fish and then 2 Dolphins called "Tangles" and "Shadow" came around our legs and we fed them - amazing how close we were (check out the photos!) The sea was like ice and we were so soaked so we ran back to our room for a shower and got ready for our meal.
We went to the posh restaurant in the resort and we both tried Oysters for the first time and quite liked them - very rich tho! We had a lovely meal and it didn't rain although it was very windy.
Sunday morning, we checked out and put our bags in lockers fr the day while we went on Quad Bikes - Iain's birthday present from his Mum, Dad, Bro, Sis & Co which was so much fun - we went right into the sand dunes for about 1 hour - would definatley do it again - Iain wanted to be a bit of a boy racer and got told of for doing too many skids in a narrow space!! - boys, will be boys!
Our ferry home didn't leave til 4:00 so we sunbathed under the clouds. I (Iain) got bored as the sun wasn't around so dug a hole and lay in it. Little did I know that the rays still got through so I have burnt my back and C has burnt her thighs!!! Not good!!!
We had a dip in the pool to get all the sand off us and then headed for the Jetty to take us home. When we were leaving we saw baby dolphins swimming next to us.
When we got off the bus C phoned her mum and after 15 minutes I started to panic as a storm started to brew. There was thunder, lightening bolts, Gusty winds making the dust and leaves swirl in the air, sign posts vibrating and other heavy objects being thrown around. I dragged C off the phone leaving Diane wondering what was going on and we legged it home!!!!!!!
Well thats all folks a great birthday experience and an enjoyable trip.
C and I xx
