Woke around 8am with the boys needing the toilet. They went off to pee in the bush and as they opened the door they saw the wallabies all around our camp and started screaming with excitement so the rest of us where soon up and about too! We had a slow start to the day with the breakfast marathon taking even longer without power. Nick spent the morning topping up the water tanks from the containers on top of the car - he siphons the water out using the water hose and by the time he'd filled up both tanks he was quite pink in the cheeks and needing coffee! While he was on top of the car he sorted out both luggage bags up there - it's amazing how much stuff we carry on top of the car and haven't used yet. I began a couple of hour's schoolwork with the kids and I'm finding it really hard to work out how the boys are doing. We complete a unit of grammar every day from their textbooks but by the end of the session I think I hand feed them the answers just to get it over with!! While I did the education, Nick went into town and filled up all the containers with more drinking water from the tourist information centre - a great service given by Portland Shire. It was mid afternoon by the time we got out to explore and we went off to see Cape Nelson where there are a few short walks to do along the cliff top. Unfortunately the march flies were everywhere and they swamped you as soon as you got out of the car so we gave up after a trip to the lighthouse. We called in for groceries on the way home and lit a fire as soon as we got back. I made dinner on the fire pit hot plate which I found very stressful and ended up with smoke inhalation and burns to most of my body! Still the meal wasn't too bad - lamb chops and sausages with roasted veg, asparagus, corn and garlic bread. The best thing about fire pit cooking is there's less washing up! The camp filled up quickly with backpackers in their camper vans as it began to get dark and this lot had bought guitars and sang all night - really badly! By the early hours of the morning we'd had enough!!
