We all had another fantastic night's sleep and woke up around 830am. The sky was overcast and the air felt very damp but the forecast promised sunshine so we decided to skip school today and explore instead. Breakfast took the usual two hours to get through and Nick made us all a packed lunch then we set off for Wilson Promontory National Park, Australia's most southerly point. It took us a good hour to get there but the scenery was stunning so it didn't really matter. Once inside the national park we had planned on a walk but the signs were all pretty poor so we shot past them and ended up at Squeaky Beach instead. This was an awesome little spot - white sand, rocks to climb and a great surf to jump through. We had our picnic on the sand and then walked to the other end of the beach and explored the rocks. Anna got a little carried away in the waves and soaked her clothes so spent the rest of the day walking around in her undies!! After lunch we had a look through Tidal River - the only camping area on the Prom. It wasn't too busy but there were still a lot of people there and we passed lots of campers on their way in for the weekend. I think we made the right choice staying at Bear Gully - after all, it's free! On the way out we stopped and did the Prom Wildlife Walk, a beautiful walk into the middle of the Prom. Katharine almost refused to it in case we came across some wild emus but Nick bet her $100 we wouldn't see anything. We saw about 20 emus, 50 kangaroos and wallabies and a big brown wombat asleep in the ferns!! We left a lot poorer then we began! On the way home we called into Foster and topped up with more water and groceries and then went back to camp. The place had begun to fill up over the afternoon and people continued to roll in after 10pm. We had dinner and cleaned up and then George and Doris came over and we spent the evening chatting under an amazing sky. Nick and Katharine both saw shooting stars.
