We all woke up around 830am and I had had a surprising good sleep considering where we were camping. Nick however didn't as he heard plenty of bumps in the night! We decided to skip schoolwork and headed out after breakfast to explore. We drove along the coast road towards Mornington and passed some pretty towns such as Mount Martha but nothing that made us stop the car. The beach at Mornington looked pretty with the painted beach huts standing in a line but it was tiny and very disappointing after seeing it on all the tourist brochures. We dove inland through Red Hill and this part of Mornington was very pretty with rolling hills and green pastures but we didn't really find anywhere to stop so we drove onto Sorrento. We parked at the ferry terminal and Nick sat on the foreshore with the kids while Katharine and I went into a café and bought lunch - very tasty but back to high prices! Sorrento and Portsea have some amazing houses, all very expensive, and we drove around a few of them before heading to Portsea surf beach for a walk. The surf was very impressive and there were 6 surf lifesavers sitting on a deserted beach as no one was swimming today. We sat and watched the waves for a while until we spotted hypodermic needle caps in the sand and decided we'd had enough and headed home. The kids didn't want much for dinner so Nick and I had pasta and then we all had an early night and watched a movie before bed. The Mornington Peninsula is just not what we expected - it's a s**t hole unless you stay in a boutique hotel and restaurant and spa hop for the weekend spending a fortune!
