We all woke up early this morning as we had left all the windows open because it was so hot last night, and the sun streamed in. Matty had a nightmare and was sleeping on the couch. Nick got up and walked the beach and watched the sun come up and when he got back we had a coffee sitting outside before starting breakfast and packing up the van. We were on the road by 945am and just as we got going it began to rain - perfect timing although it was only a small drop! The drive across to South Gippsland was very pretty - lots of water, hills and animal filled paddocks. The trip was about three and a half hours long and we had planned on stopping half way for morning tea but couldn't find a suitable picnic area. We drove through Sale and Bairnsdale and both towns looked great with big wide tree lined streets and every shop you could need. We arrived at Swan Reach around 1pm and found the caravan park. It's a lovely little park with lots of lush green grass everywhere and across the road are the town oval and tennis courts. The kids were starving so I concentrated on lunch while Nick set up the annex. We are on a bit of a hill and have a great view of the oval across to the river so it's a shame to use the annex, but we are here for 10 days, the skies are dark and it lets us spread out! Nick got us watertight and then took the kids across to the oval for a game of footie while I did some laundry and cleaned the van. He got back just as the heavens opened and we had a great thunderstorm. The kids all had an early shower and were scrubbed from head to toe. None of them had had their hair washed for a week, despite going to the beach repeatedly, and Anna had dreadlocks that were hard to get rid of! We decided on pizza for dinner as a bit of a treat as a restaurant was being advertised in the caravan park office. Nick went to pick it up and the restaurant was a converted windmill in the middle of nowhere - stunning. Luckily they also do Devonshire teas so we will have to visit it again!! The pizzas were great and the evening was spent in front of the tv before an early bed as everyone was shattered.
