Woke up around 830am to a very overcast sky and rain threatening. There was lots of movement in the camp so we fired up the generator and had coffee, then I had a shower while Nick made everyone breakfast. We spent the morning doing schoolwork, which was a bit of a shock after five days of ignoring the books! Still, the kids did really well and Nick and I didn't suffer too much either!! After lunch we hit the road and went exploring. We drove to Barramunga along a very scenic but windy road through the forest and stopped at Stevenson's Falls to check out a free camp site we have thought of moving on to tomorrow. The camp area is beautiful, set along-side a small river under the canopy of tall gum tress. The trouble is the road is quite narrow and winding for a caravan and it is in the middle of nowhere to explore other areas. We walked to the falls once we got there and the kids had a great time. Brambles were growing along both banks of the river and it was easy to cross jumping from rock to rock so we all had a good feed before heading back to the car. I looked out for a platypus as we had been told you could find them here but no luck! We drove on to Apollo Bay, a pretty town on the coast built for tourists. We got petrol and stocked up on groceries and found we were back to WA prices. We've really been back to WA prices since Port Fairy! We asked about free drinking water at the tourist information centre and they had a tap we could use in their car park. Unfortunately we couldn't get to it very easily so we left water for another day. We headed home looking forward to a cup of coffee when we came across a stranded motorist at the side of the road with his hazards on. Nick stopped to see if we could help and after much discussion and 2 chapters of my book we set off in search of a mobile signal so we could call the guy a taxi (he didn't trust us enough for a lift!). We drove for 10 minutes and still couldn't get a signal so Nick pulled into someone's house and asked to use their phone but when he rang Apollo Bay's one taxi firm no one answered! We turned around and went back to update the stranded motorist only to find he'd started his car and disappeared!! By the time we got back to camp it was after 6pm. Nick cooked dinner for everyone and we showered the kids then watched more of 'The Killing' before bed. We only have 6 episodes to go and it's getting so nail bitingly good that we may have to watch it all tonight!!
