Another early start this morning as the kids wanted to play with their friends who were leaving today. The weather was overcast and rain was forecast so we decided to skip school and spend the day checking out the scenery while driving the Great Alpine Road - or some of it! We had breakfast and Nick made up a picnic while I packed up the car and then we hit the road. The scenery was stunning as the road follows the Tambo River up into the mountains. The clouds were low in the sky and the kids all thought the woods on the mountains were on fire. It took us about two hours to get to Omeo and once there we found a fantastic park where we sat and ate our picnic. After lunch we had a walk through the park and explored the town. I popped into tourist information and got directions to a pub at Anglers Rest where we planned to have afternoon tea but once back in the car we took a wrong turn and ended up in Swift's Creek instead! We called into the bakery and picked up coffee and cake for the trip home, which didn't take nearly as long! I ended up travel sick so once back in Swan Reach Nick dropped me off at the van for a lie down and he took the kids into Lakes Entrance for a walk and a play. It rained all evening so after dinner the kids had a shower and watched a movie and ended up in bed around 9pm - far too late. Katharine, Nick and I watched the Xmas special of Mrs Browns Boys although Nick spent most of the time online chatting to Telstra sorting out our email account as we've been locked out of it - he didn't finish until after midnight by which time I was fast asleep!
