Woke up throughout the night to the sound of rain and had to get up and check we didn't have any leaks! Everyone slept in until 8am and then it was nice to put the coffee machine on without having to get the generator out first - the joys of electricity! The rain was set in and the surrounding hillsides were shrouded in mist so we decided to head into Bairnsdale for the morning and do schoolwork from the public library. We found a launderette first as we needed to wash all the bed linen and a lovely elderly Italian couple who have just taken over the business said I could either sit there and they would make me a coffee or they would do the washing for me! I left them a double load and went back to the car! We found the library but unfortunately it was closed due to building works so we found a café instead and skipped school for the day. We had a walk around the shops and I checked last week's lotto ticket - we were winners, yippee! We won $12.50 so we bought another ticket for today's $25 million!! Next we found Coles and did some food shopping then we explored the town while waiting for the washing to finish. It's a fantastic town built along the river and has some great parks and bike tracks for the kids. We picked up the washing and the lovely couple had it all neatly folded in our washing basket. Back at the van we made lunch and sat and read for a while, then we got back in the car and drove into Lakes Entrance to check it out. As you drive down the hill into Lakes Entrance you can see where the place gets its name from as all you see is water everywhere, including the ocean. There were fishing boats all over the place and many of them were selling fish straight from the boat. We called into the tourist information centre and picked up some brochures and then drove onto Metung, described in the Lonely Planet as Gippsland's Riviera. As we drove into the town we found a boardwalk skirting the lake the so parked the car and had a walk for a while as it had finally stopped raining. The local pub looked fantastic and if we win the $25 million we will be back at the weekend for dinner! Eventually we headed home, after a detour through the hills, and the kids played while I made the beds back up. Nick cooked dinner and we watched a dvd before bed. I didn't check the lotto numbers just so we could hope for a little while longer!!
