Another terrible night's sleep but woke up to sunshine so we decided to skip schoolwork for the day and spend the day away from Rosebud as it is sapping all our energy! The Sansoni family decided to move on today, heading for the Murray, so we said goodbye and headed for Auhurs Seat, a state park in the hills behind Rosebud. We took a small winding back road leading up to the park and found a gate open with a sign showing a car park about 3kms away. We took the path in, passing a couple of tree loppers on the way, and soon found ourselves on very rough, steep tracks with not a sole around. When we reached the other side of the state park we could see the car park but the fence was padlocked, locking us in! We realized the tree loppers had opened the gate and quickly went back the way we had come hoping they hadn't left and locked up behind them!! Luckily they were still hard at work and we managed to get out but not before we met an echidna blocking our path! We carried on along the back road and eventually found a car park for King's Falls so we all got out of the car and had a 40 minute walk through the bush to the falls. Not very impressive at this time of year but it was good to actually achieve something on the Mornington Peninsula rather then see it all by car! Afterwards we drove to Mornington with the plan of finding and ice-cream and walking the beach but the beach was not very accessible and was very short so instead drove to Mount Martha, a much nicer village. We bought a box of ice-creams from the local IGA and then walked along a lovely beach lined with painted beach huts and climbed over the rock pools for a while. Eventually we headed home, calling into Coles on the way to restock the pantry. The kids ran off to play and we spent the rest of the afternoon packing up the annex, filling up with water and getting laundry done. We have paid to stay here until Friday but all of us feel the need to move on!
