We woke up around 7am having had a much better night's sleep - the generator going all night from the van next door drowned out the geese and the roosters!! Katharine and I walked across the oval to the toilet block and the ground was covered in frost. My poor basil plant also had frost bite!! We had breakfast and packed up and were on the road by 830am. We called in to get fuel before we left town and they were doing such a huge business on toasted sandwiches that it took us half an hour to pay! We hit road works a few times on the A2, which caused a bit of a delay but otherwise had an uneventful trip through to Blackall where we had planned to stop for lunch. Unfortunately the picnic spot was so full of other caravaners that we couldn't find a spot to pull over so we kept on driving and ended up in Isisford before finding anywhere else! By this time the kids were starving and not very happy. We tried to distract them with the all the emus we saw in the paddocks (and a few wild pigs) but it was the amount of road kill we saw (heaps) that occupied them the most! At Isisford we found a fantastic free camp along the Barcoo River, which is run by the council and costs $3 a night per caravan. There are flushing toilets with soap and hand towels plus multiple drinking water taps where we can refill are water tanks. There are about 50 other vans here but the camp is huge and we managed to find a flat spot not too far from the toilets. We had lunch and then walked into town to pay our fees. We called into the local café and had an ice cream and a cappuccino and the owner came and sat outside with us and told us all about the town while we drank. Next we visited the local park (where there are free showers with hot water!) and had a play. Soon a whole heap of local kids came out to play and everyone began a game of Bulldog - the kids had such fun they want to stay here for a week! By the time we got home it was getting dark but the evening was really mild compared to last night. We had dinner and then Nick and I sat outside looking at the stars. The kids had a very quick shower and then went straight to bed - even Katharine - and they were all asleep by 8pm. There is no TV reception here so Nick and I watched a couple of episodes of The Bridge 2. By the time we turned the TV off it was absolutely silent outside!!
