Nick and I woke up at 530 am as the fruit pickers that live here were heading off to work. It was cold and still dark outside so we went back to sleep until the kids woke us around 7 am. They were also complaining about the cold and we realized we'd left the windows open! We eventually got up and after breakfast headed off in the car for the day. We drove down to Proserpine but it was not particularly attractive, just a commercial centre, so we didn't stop. Instead we headed out to Cedar Creek Falls, which was a pretty drive through farming country and into the hills. The falls only flow in the wet season but there was a swimming hole there we thought the kids might like to swim at. When we got there though the water looked a bit cloudy and there were lots of mosquitoes so we got back in the car and drove to Airlie Beach. Airlie Beach is a vibrant town geared up for tourists and sailing. The waterfront seemed like one massive marina and although the beaches were ok they were nothing special. There was a fantastic free water lagoon though between the beach and the main street surrounded by green grass, bbq's and a playground. We'd packed a picnic and so spent the day there and while the kids swam and played in the playground, Nick and I sat and read under the trees. No one lasted very long in the water as it was far too cold and by 3 pm everyone had had enough. We drove around to Shute Harbour to check out the scenery and the expensive houses before heading to a shopping centre to buy dinner (and series 2 and 3 of Game of Thrones - addicted!!). Back at the caravan park another family with two children had set up camp and all the kids were soon playing together. Jonny head-butted Katharine's nose so she came in in tears and then felt sick for the rest of the evening - a perfect excuse to send her to bed early so that we could start Series two of GoT!!
