The forecast was for a fair wind today so we decided to take the opportunity to try and cover a few miles. The wind had more south in it than we would have liked but it gave us just enough to sail, 35' to 40' the apparent wind, this is about as close to the wind that we can sail with reasonable speed but sailing to windward is not our favourite point of sail as the boat heels a lot and you get a cool wind in your face all day. We watched with envy of the yachts going the other way, sailing along in there tee shirts and shorts while e were in full warm weather gear. The last five miles were not nice because the wind went round more to the south and increased to over 30 knots. I remember speaking to a man who had sailed right round the world and he told me he never was at sea in winds of more than 30 knots, well this is the third time for us this year. Kristianopel is a delightful little harbour, the harbour master is the spitting image of a friend of ours from Scotland Allen Collins. As evening comes the wind dropped to nothing as often happens out here. Kristianopel was an important city in Denmark back in the 1600s it became Swedish in 1658 the two country's had been fighting over it for years, both flags fly in the church yard and at the harbour. The town had an 11 meter high wall all round it but now it's much lower but made an enjoyable walk round it. The town has only a few permanent residents, so the yachts and large campsite swell the numbers for a few months in the summer. While writing this as the sun drops over the trees we are enjoying a live music concert that is taking place in the village
