Negreira to Santa Marinas That great philosopher Dolly Parton once said, "If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain" and so it proved today. For a glorious few minutes, the sun appeared amidst blue skies and my mood lifted when I saw a wonderful rainbow. When it rains in Galicia, it really rains. This morning a huge thunder and lightning display around Negreira delayed our departure and we decided to do this next section over two days instead of one. The first part of today's walk involved a gradual climb of 11km up through paths which resembled small streams as the heavy rain cascaded off the hills. And then thunderstorms appeared towards the top of the hills followed by sleet and rain on the road walking part. As we arrived at a tiny hamlet of Santa Marinas 5km further on, hailstones plummeted down and so a log fire, bottle of red wine and the company of eight young peregrinos from France, Germany and Australia convinced us, this was enough for today.
