India and Nepal 2022
Estella to Los Arcos There was torrential rain last night and it is raining lightly this morning. First stop is back into town to try and get my boots repaired and I tracked down a shoe repairer down a side street. The hand gestures, doubtful facial expressions and use of the word 'experimento' suggested that he would give it a go but I don't think the boots will make it all the way! He refused any payment - another small act of kindness along the Way. I also stopped to buy a cheap replacement pair of boots just in case. This has left me leaving quite late and Ed and Carol have gone on ahead. I hope I will see them later. After a few miles I reach a red wine fountain provided for peregrinos to set them on their way today! I walked by myself but never felt alone with inspiring music like Mumford and Sons and Adele's wonderful album 21. Then the rain became very heavy and so it was out with the raingear for its first appearance on the Camino. After walking for mile after mile through farmland tracks, a little mobile cafe appeared as if a mirage in the distance. Beautiful fresh squeezed orange drink was a welcome boost. Tonight I am experiencing a municipal albergue for the first time as I arrived late and this was the only option. And finally, a lovely surprise to meet up again with walkers I hadn't seen for a few days and meet some new people over dinner outside the church before the heavy rain reappeared.
