Hornillos to Castrojeriz There is nil chance of rain and a maximum expected temperature today of 79 degrees. So it's good to get through two or three miles before the sun rises over the Meseta, I really like walking in this environment which at times reminds me of Yorkshire with the dry stone walls enclosing one side of the path. There are the ubiquitous wind turbines in the fields but the soil is stony and not well suited for some type of crops. Just before I reach the little Camino town of Hontanas, a vehicle pulls alongside with uniformed officers from the civil municipal police. A young woman officer winds her window down and asks if I am OK and in my broken Spanish, I reassure her that all is fine. Without water or shelter, this place can be a bit tricky, particularly in summer. The walk into Castrojeriz is along a tree lined avenue where the yellow autumn leaves flutter gently to the ground. The albergue tonight is right opposite the church and has many quirky features - a traditional stopping place for pilgrims throughout the ages.
