Carrion de Los Condes to Calzadilla de la Cueza This has been the toughest day mentally of the Camino so far for various reasons, and I have had to draw on some of my 'reserves'. How can I make a 17km walk in a virtually straight line sound interesting? I even got excited when there was a little tiny turn in the road direction! This is the part of the Camino which many peregrinos find most challenging. There is no shade and no water for the entire day and you need to take sensible precautions. The old Roman road- the Via Aquitana- is still intact after 2,000 years of use! I have stopped at Calzadilla de la Cueza which has a population of 60 and there are only four of us in the hostel. We have met up again with Alan and Sherry in this very quiet little classic Camino town. Tomorrow I will be hitting half way point which is a positive way to end the day and to look forward to the adventures which lie ahead over the next three or four weeks.
