India and Nepal 2022
Rabanal to Molinaseca. I awake as a 60 year old which seems weird as I feel exactly the same as when I was 25 backpacking around Australia and New Zealand. Today is a long walk across the mountains including the highest point of the whole Camino. The early morning mountain air soon gives way to another hot sunny day and the climb is gradual and then a steep rise to get to Cruce de Ferro, the peak of the mountain range. Here the tradition is to leave something behind to symbolise you moving on in your life and discarding unhelpful parts of your personality. I leave an oyster shell with a little pebble embedded which I picked up from Mersea Island recently. After passing a quirky little hamlet of Manjarin (resident population 1), I bump into four young religious pilgrims who have been walking for eight weeks from Le Puy. When I tell them that today is my birthday, they ask me to stay so that they can sing songs to me. A special spontaneous moment which I will always remember. The scenery is great with big hills and you can imagine this journey being taken a thousand years ago, particularly as you look down over the churches in the valley below, including tonight's stopover at Molinaseca.

Lynne Happy 60th Rich :-) I am so glad you had a celebratory moment with such a cheerful and happy quartet of pilgrims. What a treasure chest of memories you are building along the way x
