Day 255, 16 March 2013, Vancouver to Whistler - Woo hoo! Aside from waking up periodically for the odd stop, time went super fast and it was 5 am Saturday 16 March when we pulled into the main railway station and bus depot in Vancouver. Fortunately the buses are much more reliable than the sign above the railway station! We even had the chance to check out the train we'll be taking in a month's time - the Amtrak Cascades was sitting on the platform getting ready for it's run to Seattle, USA at 6.40 am. Our bus to Whistler, chock-full of skiers and boarders, left at 6.30 am and there was quite a lot of gorgeous scenery on the way to Whistler. Apparently. We saw the tail end of it as inexplicably we'd fallen asleep again. Our great friends Dale & Rolande met us when the bus pulled into Whistler Village and we hit the supermarket for supplies for the forthcoming month.... We thought we'd be in for a rude shock with mountain resort pricing - but it's pretty much on par with the Okanagan Valley. Which is on par with Sydney or a bit more expensive. (So essentially the most expensive place in the world since we left home 9 months ago!) Good to get the supplies done though and we headed to "home" for the next month - a condo in the Benchlands area (pictured), right on the shuttle bus run to the ski lifts. Utter luxury - we spent at least four hours testing out the snuggliness of the bed and the splashy-ness of the bath. (One of the major downfalls of extensive travelling on a budget - the dearth of baths!) All in all a lazy old day. The rain outside put it's mind to it and became snow and then the mountains disappeared. The night got quieter and quieter and eventually the skylights throughout the condo were completing covered in snow and it settled on the paths outside. The golf course course next door is completely blanketed also. Fabulous. Can't wait to explore the village tomorrow! Sweet dreams.
