20 Oct 2012
Last weekend Daegu hosted a Scavenger Hunt downtown. This is not the first such event but I wasnt able to join in the past as theres always so much to do every weekend. This time I was able to join in a group of four to participate.
This event was organized by LOVE146 an organization aimed at stopping child trafficking worldwide. They started with an initial presentation while people arrived before the event began.
We were given a sealed envelope which we could open at 3pm. We then had until 5pm to complete as many tasks and return to the restaurant where we started. Tasks ranged from 3 points for difficult to 1 point for easy.
It was a mad scramble as everyone rushed down the four floors to open the envelope and get started. Some of the tasks were quite simple such as kissing a mannequin or riding a bike. Others were more challenging
Several involved babies which I wasnt comfortable with asking strangers if we could grab their child and photograph them. Tasks involved taking a photo with a baby and its parent, high fiving a baby, and thumb wrestling a baby. With the language barrier some people just werent comfortable and ushered their child away from the crazy foreigners.
We thought we could goto the police station to knock off three tasks, wear handcuffs, arm wrestle a police officer, and direct traffic together. We werent the first to get there and they were just telling us all to go away.
Many strangers were enthusiastic about helping us out. Some of the tasks included
- find a couple with same outfits
- spell love 146
- do a handstand with stranger
- group photo phone box
- all get in a tree
- shine a bald mans head
- shake a bearded mans hand
- wear the same outfit as mannequin
- find a foreign coin
- all jump in air
- go behind a counter and give a customer change
- go in a make up shop and pose with lady
- each hold a flower
- get on the back of a motorcycle with owner
- group photo with an ajossi (old man)
- dance crazy behind someone
- all get in a car other than a taxi
- all get in an elevator with a stranger
- dance crazy behind a stranger
- switch clothes with a team member
- all wear hats
- group photo at a clock at 3.47pm
Some of them were more difficult and we werent able to complete
- toss pizza dough in the air
- wear police handcuffs
- arm wrestle a policeman
- wear a starbucks apron and serve someone coffee
- mummyfie a member in toilet roll
- find an animal other than a cat/dog/fish
- find someone with freaky hair colour
- find someone in a leg cast
We had to wait two hours for them to tally the results from each teams memory card. I knew we were going to lose points as they might not know what some of the pictures were of
Max score was 110 and first place winner got 107!! I dont see how that was possible as there were about ten things we couldnt do. 2nd and 3rd place teams also got over 100 points. It would be nice to know our score but they didnt reveal how the rest of the teams did
It was a fun event and quite popular as this has been held several times before
