The newly released Avengers movie has been eagerly awaited by many of us, so a group of students and me decided to go on the weekend a few days after opening day to avoid the crowds. This Saturday also happened to be Childrens Day in Korea which I wasnt completely aware of at the time. When checking for tickets online there were two figures showing on the website. One was for theatre capacity, one was for remaining seats. We had planned to goto the 2.40 show but it was now showing 3 seats available about an hour before. This is strange as the neighbourhood where I live is usually much emptier than the downtown movie theatres. Due to Childrens Day many families had chosen to goto the movies and watch movies such as Avengers. Fortunately there is a theatre across the road and when I checked online there was a 2.20 and 3.15 show playing. When we got over there the 2.20 show was also almost sold out. We took the last block of seats and I didnt realize till we got in the theatre it was the front row right by the screen. Also I had promised the students I would buy them popcorn provided they pay for their own tickets. Movie prices were actually ok at 7000w ($6.50) as we were not watching the 3D version which only played in the evenings. Some kids tried to ask for a large size popcorn claiming they were hungry and didnt have breakfast and that they wanted a drink with it. The deal was one small popcorn or if they wanted a jumbo one they had to share with two other students, not one each. Another teacher also came and offered to buy drinks for everyone which was nice as he didnt have to. These were a group of good students anyway so it was ok to treat them for a bit. I paid about 20,000w for all the popcorn and the teacher paid the same for the drinks ($18 each). The theatre was packed and some kids were sitting in our seats so our students had to ask them to move. The movie wasnt as amazing as everyone is hyping about. The last part was a repeat of Transformers with an alien invasion trashing a downtown city. I preferred the Thor and Captain America movies to this combined superhero outing. When we were done there was a small zoo setup for Childrens Day by the shopping and movie complex. They had small bears and monkeys, rabbits and mice, a bird cage area, large pens with a sheep, deer, and swans. Towards the end were glass and open cages holding snakes, lizards, and iguanas. I'm not really a big fan so I didnt stick around. After me and my teacher friend went to Homeplus to get some dinner. Homeplus is a walmart type grocery store with clothing and appliances on the second floor. In their food court area they have glass display cases where you choose your item and pay the cashier. Then you take your ticket and wait for the vendor to call your number to pickup your meal. I had a seafood rice that came with kimchi soup for 7500w ($6.80). I had planned to spend a weekend home for a change to break from all the weekend trips, rest, and save some money.
