Daegu is hosting a dinosaur expo for a few weeks till the start of December so I checked it out this weekend. Entrance is 13,000w ($12) which might seem high but it was worth it. As you approach the event site there are giant dinosaurs outside with dinosaur sounds playing from the speakers. Some of the dinosaurs were mechanical and were moving.
After entering the site and going to the second floor there are again moving dinosaurs. There was a trio of three talking dinosaurs and another large one with a moving head. This takes you into the main exhibition hall. This is a school gymnasium type hall converted into the main exhibition hall.
There are many large sized skeletons with long necks reaching up to the roof. On the third floor is a balcony level from which you can look down onto the massive skeletons. Back in the landing was a craft area where people could make clay or plasticine dinosaurs.
It seems they had many things to keep the kids entertained. There was a darkened 3D room with glowing dinosaurs, and a large sand play area where kids could excavate their own dinosaurs. Kids could climb inside dinosaur eggs to take pictures or take photos in another interactive area.
For an extra 2000w ($1.50) you can watch a short 3D dinosaur movie. The hall was all 5 year old kids who must have been on a field trip with several school buses outside. The movie was a short 15 min film about a boy and his robot who time travel back to the dinosaur age, are chased around, and eventually manage to escape.
The 3D effects were quite good simulating a flying reptile that had captured the robot so his perspective as the reptiled swooped around to leave him on his perched nest. It was quite fun as the kids were screaming at everything so it was more of a screaming show. At this age it only takes one and all of them copy as they think its supposed to be scary and they should scream like their friends.
The exhibition runs until Dec 11 in Daegu and their website is www.hidino.co.kr. The event site is a short walk west of Daegu Station near Jungangno
