After a tiresome day updating the plotters software we left Mariefred in the evening with everything working again, we had a fridge full of food and planned to spend a few nights at anchor. Our first night was still in Lake Malaren where we anchored all on our own in a very quite bay, about 21.00 we had a rainstorm come through giving us a fantastic rainbow, we also watched a Marsh Harrier trying unsuccessfully to take a baby duck from its mother.
Day 2
Out of Lake Mälaren through the Södertälje canal this brought us very close to some big shipping. We also took advantage of a good supply of fuel and topped up the tanks we have used 120 lts this year but we have been using the engine quite a bit.
Day 3
Ringston
This is a fantastic area to anchor lots of shelter from all wind directions. From the chart it resembles a volcanic lake as it forms an 80 m deep bowl while the surrounding water is only 20/30 m deep. In the 1980s it was discovered that the centre of Tvären is a 2000-meter-wide and 200- metre deep partially sediment filled cavity in the bedrock. It wasn't till the 1990s that it was discovered this was the site of a Meteor hit 460 million years ago, now the islands are a nature reserve. We have not seen or heard them but there are about 200 re introduced wolves in Sweden. The water temperature was 20 degrees, Bren had her first swim of the season.
Day 4
Hasselo -Bergo
Not such a good day 25 knots of wind and gusty making the sailing challenging as the gaps between the rocks are only feet at times, we went to 2 Nature harbours but both were full, Sweden is now officially on holiday, so we anchored off a small island while anchoring our throttle cable snapped, we stayed the night and worked out, with Brenda down in the engine room we could get the Revs up and get to a guest Harbour with a parts supplier.
