We left Stockholm this evening for Lake Malaren a 70 mile long inland sea with hundreds of islands. To get into the lake we had to pass under four lifting bridges and raise up half a metre in a lock, we have chosen an anchorage at Drottningholm right outside the home of the Swedish royal family, we dropped anchor at 21.00 with the sun setting over the royal palace.
Day 2
Woke up to rain, the pilot book said we could moor near the palace to visit it, on attempting this we became true baltic sailors, it is said if you sail in the baltic you hit rocks. Well we did, an uncharted one but luckily we were only just moving. Our sonar said 3.4 m deep, then we touched, we were able to back off, no harm done. We spent the afternoon walking round the palace grounds as the day had improved and the rain stopped. We received a text from our friends John and Linda who are now sailing through Spain saying they were sheltering from the midday sun, we are looking forward to next week with 25 deg temperatures forecast ( the start of the Baltic summer) Everybody keeps saying how unusual this weather has
