We left Cancale in the rain and cycled to St Malo, the beach was lovely and the sky moody with the lumpy clouds moving in. We got to our tiny cheap Air BNB apartment for the night, dumped out bag and went to discover the own walled city. Once again there was a cold wind, we cycled in and round the wall of the city, we loved being by the ocean. Our tummies got the better of us and we walked round and round looking for somewhere to eat and yep finally discovered a great little place - I saw a woman eating this wonderful looking salad and said I want that, having been a bit starved of raw fresh greens I couldn't wait.
The cafe was an eclectic mix of old furniture and apparently everything was for sale in there..... Pascal opted for a bottle of local cider that was delicious, the cider here seems to be out of this world or like Grandads smelly socks...
Early night as weather was looking good and we had decided to cycle to Dinan an old old town and then train to Rennes as I still wasn't great.
The morning was fabulous catching the ferry over to Dinan then it was to be a 20km cycle that ended up being 38km's and we had 4 seasons in one day, sun. rail, hail, thunderstorms!!!! It was a beautiful ride but not having to dash under trees and bridges to keep out of the rain. The arrival into Dinard was beautiful along the river. The town was up a very step old cobblestone road that was hard work pushing the bikes up with laden panniers and slippery cobblestones. The SUN came out for us and walked around the streets pushing our bikes amazed at the old wooden buildings, wanting to stay longer but our train beckoned so we headed to the train station and jumped on, a relief for me as we whizzed to Rennes as I was still not better. Catching certain trains in France is fabulous with bikes, you just wheel them on and there are dedicated places to hook them at no extra cost.
