We left Riocaud and felt a great sense of freedom, we had worked really hard especially Rod as his nature can't leave a project unfinished and this can be to the detriment of our own time and things we want to do. The project was bigger than could have been achieved in the time we were to be there so we worked, worked to get in down for our hosts. The accommodation had been fantastic!!!
Bergerac was our first stop, some of the finest Bordeaux wines come from this region, I have read that it has beautiful square with gardens so the photo's tell the story. The old town if very oldy worldy, more crooked houses and streets, flowers, statues, we wander the streets, have the compulsory mid morning coffee to zap us into life and enjoy the feel on this town. Every corner I turn another photograph appears to the point I have to stop myself its getting OCD - stop stop!! I tell myself. We are there early so the lunch brigade of people haven't arrived yet.
We push on towards Sarlat where we are staying for 3 nights, our plan is to mountain bike in the Dordogne, I have read quite a bit on the internet and apparently there are loads of tracks in this area. As we bought 29er's its possible to go off road so exciting stuff. Our goal is to achieve in the time that we are here and so more, more biking is needed to hit this goal. We stopped in a small quaint village and thought we would have a midi dijenuer, sat down got told off, wrong table, had to move then got ignored, well we didn't feel like giving the our euros so we flagged it and had a picnic instead and it was wonderful in the town of Limeuil where the Dordogne and Vezere rivers meet. Les Eyziers is where all the mountain bike trails are meant to be so we drove into this village the rain was coming down and it was packed - August European summer holidays sucks, if you can imagine Mt Maunganui on New Years x 100 then you have August in Europe!!!! We decide to flag it and go straight to where we are staying, a very average room via AirBNB that is overpriced due to it being a double whammy of a bank holiday weekend in France - Bad planning - nevermind can't always get it right.
