Up and atom as they say we have to drive across France today, we set our GPS for the shortest route and no toll roads knowing that this will take us along all the small country roads so we can really see France. What a wonderful journey it was too, Rod was excited to see so many cows!!! As for me I was just happy not to be on the busy stressful highways with all the idiots testing your nerves. We stopped and took photos at many of the stunning villages along the way, Rod did all the driving he was a real trooper!! It got to 5.30 and we thought rather than try to get all the way to Frangy where Nicolas & Elodie were we would have an overnight stop. We pulled into a village called Beaujeu oblivious to where we really were??? We were in Beaujoulai country yipeeeee – more great wine. What an amazing experience this turned out to be, we headed into the Information centre to find somewhere to stay, the 1st place was booked so she rang another that was just out of town and WOW, this couple were wonderful, their friend turned up and he was a wine maker and they insisted we try his wine with them – one thing lead to another and we were then having a visit to his wine cave in the morning. Life is just like that sometimes, as Forrest Gump says "it like a box of chocolates you quite sure what ya gonna get" and we got the lot this time.
That evening we went into town and there was live music and of course, wine & food - plates with different meats, pahu rain and 30 people tried to get huddled under the rotunda, the band stopped but we carried on and met some lovely people, even got invited to a bike ride the following morning - we had other plans, Georges wine cave.....
So the next morning the breakfast was all organic, homemade yogurt, honey, bread, jam, hazelnut loaf, cafe, apple juice –yummy. Then off to Georges cave and I can honestly say this is the 1st time in my life I have drunk wine before 10am – As they say in Beaujoulais – “its normal – you must taste the wine.” We were treated to a tasting of his 1986 wine OMG incredible I loved it – a bit like a pinot but better – no chemicals, no sprays, made in the old fashioned way and with passion and love. Pascal was piggy I couldn't stop him slurping. Georges is a legend, he has a huge vege garden, chickens, makes wine still and he is 72!!!
