Great drive from The Basque to The Drodogne area of France, we just kept driving with only a stop in a small town to stretch our legs and to look at more old buildings - the inspector is still amazed how nothing is straight!! We are with a very nice couple Nikki & Mel from England, they have provided us with a Gite - 2 bedrooms, lounge, kitchen and dinning its huge and we feel very spoilt. We are going to build a fence for them, Mel is into cooking Asian food so first night up an Indian curry - delicious. Next night we go to a local French village to eat out, what a great atmosphere, there is music playing, lots of food caravans, we decide of local pork and pomme de terre (potatoes), with crackling!! Not health food but is was really nice with a pepper, wine sauce - Oh the french know how to make sauce. It was a great evening immersing ourselves in a local environment and people watching was really entertaining. The dancing was great and some of the movers & groovers caught my eye as they were so good.
Our mission to put up a fence to enclosed their property. The view of the grapevines is great, the weather has been so changeable with thunderstorms with fork lightening and heavy down pours and then brilliant sunshine - weird for this time of year we are told - oh well that's the world over with weather patterns.
Duras a local village has a festival of local wine growers so we can't resist - off we head for a night out to listen to the free entertainment, 5 different bands. There was a young band that was outstanding, a steel band and a entertaining bands of three guys. It was a great night we tried many wines, ate Paella, and grilled BBQ meats.
