We woke this morning to rain and heavy clouds mmmm the French got the weather forecast correct!! mmm what to do, lets get wet and just ride, we can have a hot shower and we have dry clothes. We had been offered to stay at Cindy's flat if it was raining but we just thought oh what the hell its not cold.
We didn't get going until 11.45am thinking it might dry up - nope it didn't. It seemed like a long 20km's to Chambery, which was all on a cycleway a good strong headwind some of the way. We stopped for lunch as were soaked and got cold so a change or extra clothes sorted that and we were off again. Chambery is a big city!!! its raining and we got lost - not too much fun, we found the tourism office so they could direct us out of the city on the cycle way which was about another 5km's. We spent a lot of time today look at the map we had trying work out which way to go its signposted but quite confusing for us kiwi's. We get onto a small road and then we come across a wine cave called "PASCAL PERCEVAL" - needless to say that Rod and Pascal got so excited, we have to stop, we have to taste the wine of my distant fore fathers - oh ok then I say. The wine maker was really friendly and enjoyed that Rod has the same name, we taste different varieties and some fabulous ice wine ohlalala delicious. We did on a bottle of bubbles and when we got to pay he says that is his gift to us "UNBELIEVABLE" blown away again in France by the hospitality and kindness of strangers you meet. We leave there on a high and cycle on to Montmelian with the decision to stop there, well short of where we should be but its been a wet sock & shoe day and we have had enough, only 44km and the target had been 60km. We pop into the trusty Infomation Centre and find somewhere to stay and another great cheap find that served up homemade soup, & duck leg, and know I am off to snuggle up in a warm bed as a huge day awaits us tomorrow.
Not too many photos from me as my camera's not waterproof!!!!

Frank Pearce The hospitality of the French has always been better in the country .......the closer you are to the English Chanel the rougher I found things .You sound as though you are being treated like royalty!
