Today we took the train out to Arcachon 1 hour from Bordeaux. It was a really interesting town with amazing houses. The beaches were nice with great sand. The cycle trails were amazing, two lanes in each direction clearly marked it was like being on your own bike road, so safe magnific! The whole environment was stunning, there were heaps of people but it didnt seem that crowded as it all flowed so well. We rode outnto see the biggest sand dune in europe, it was such a shame the weather was not great with showers coming through and it was windy up on the dune - yep of course we climbed it. There were loads of people, some even sitting up there having a picnic in the wind and rain. Today was the day to have a great set menu french lunch - we picked a place away from the main areas and stumbled on a winner. 14 euros and I have tomato and mozellella salad with a frozen tomato sorbet delicious, next was fillet of fish with a corriander salsa and to finish I couldnt go past the mouse de chocolat mmm. Just as well we are clocking up 50km today, all this for $23 it was great quality makes new zealand seem really expensive in comparison.
The butt was getting really soreby the end and a seat on the train was welcomed as we still had another 10km at the other end. I am really looking forward to hitting the canal and having a goal destination each day, I know we are going to get really really soar butts in the first few days though. Tomorrow is our last real rest day before its peddaling around everyday.
