Abertville was our lunch stop today as our planned ride was 82km's a big ask through the mountains and the longest of rides to date – talk about not choosing an easy day for a long ride!!! We had a rest for an hour and then found our way to the designated greenway path that would take us all the way to Annecy to complete our goal of 1000km’s cycled in France. We thought we were in for an easy afternoon – not to be the case as it was uphill and into a head wind – argh push, push push, at first we take turns to lead team RodandJacq until we hit that time of day where Rod comes into his own late afternoon and he bought us all the way into Annecy with me sitting behind getting an easy ride – I did still have to pedal. All our rides seemed to take on a bit of a routine, I was great and fired up in the morning and Rod always had a late wind and would bring us in late afternoon, TEAM - Together Each Acheives More, and this has been an amazing journey on our bikes together. Doing these distances in all sorts of weather conditions, its not always easy, you have different energy levels, food needs and pee stops ha haa, but we did this together and I will cherish these memories for the rest of my life, it felt surreal lying on the grass in the beautiful mountain, lake city of Annecy a place we both loved and said we would come back to one day so here we were having more than completed our goal of 1000km's. What an achievement, we were both hot, and tired but elated on the route and distance we had just completed. In true Kiwi fashion a cold beer - Rod comes back with a dutch beer and 7% what that will blow my socks off but it tasted great. Nicolas & Elodie has arranged to meet us and take us back to their place - thanks, home was 1/2 away and it was hard to stay awake in the car.
I enjoyed this region more than the canals, it was more challenging and scenic. Thanks Rod we had to dig it in at times and just head down and bum up as they say to make it through to the end of the day - what a great adventure, someone once called us the A TEAM and I think they are right. - mmmm I'm already thinking whats next???? Cape Reigna to The Bluff - whose coming along for that.........
