After a night with Nicolas & Elodie we had a snap decision to cycle the lakes in the area as a loop, the last 160km's to complete our 1000km going of cycling in France - WOW. So we headed off and its so scenic you forget about the pain getting up the hills and the downhills are magical, its a combination of dedicated cycle ways and small roads. There are loads of "roadys" (people of road bikes for those not familiar) and they give us a weird look as we steam along on our 29er mountain bikes - we show them we aren't that slow!!!
Its a magical ride and we feel a great satisfaction as we cruise into Aix les Bains via the lake front on a beautiful sunny afternoon looking at all the boats - it appears the European holiday season is at the end as there aren't that many people around eating ice creams anymore!!!!
We find a small hotel - Hotel Savoy - we laugh lets tell everyone we are staying at THE SAVOY - haha this ones cheap, old and has loads of character I find out its a listed building, the room is very french, we get a family room 3 singles and a queen, double balcony and a view, wrapped!!! With that sorted we think about YES food all this cycling give you an appetite, crepes is what we decide on and they are made with buckwheat flour, stuffed with ham, sheep cheese, rocket and sun dried tomatoes - just my thing and they were fantastic, you must have cider with crepes so Pascal orders that and I am thinking we need to stop this drinking - but you know what its fantastic with it. We meet our friends Aubin & Coralie that we meet in Moorea earlier this year, they are from here and have just arrived back from travelling. They absolutely spoil us and Coralie's sister turns up to meet and speak english to us, the evening is again full of laughter and fun, we are taken to a QUIRKY (again I keep using this term as there is so much of this in France, I can't think of another word) - bar within the Casino building. It is a night to remember, we finally flop into bed at midnight having been up since 6am its been a long day.
