So now back to some training after all the lunches, dinners, aperitif etc.
The information centers in France are fantastic with local maps, I picked up a cycle route map that showed 4 different routes. We opted to do a loop, part of Veloroute du Littoral which is part of the Eurovelo Route 4 that starts in Ukraine and runs all the way to Brittany and Cycle route of Linen. We headed off along the coast towards Dieppe, wandering through small villages and Hamlets, WOW there are some houses around here and money too I could smell it. We stopped in a seaside village Pourville, there is a huge memorial - a maple leaf for the Canadians. We huddled against a concrete wall out of the wind and enjoy our homemade baguettes in the warm sunshine. I had 2 layers of merino, my puffer and a headscarf to keep warm - and didn't get hot all day.
We cycled 60km's along country roads and a greenway - a car less bike road, that is shared with walkers - in France they understand how to share these routes properly, the respect between walkers & cyclist is wonderful. I loved every minute, I was in my happy happy place.
We got home and thought well that 60km's was a walk in the park - are we ready for our challenge??
Next morning I was surprised how good I felt, not too tired at all. I thought I'd go off for a walk and ended up walking about 4km's down the beach to where steps climb up and you can walk back along the cliff. Well I got to the top & I couldn't find the track and with all the signs of the cliff falling away I decided not to risk just wandering along as with erosion about a metre a year falls away. I took the walkers signed routed and ended up on the road walking back, wasn't so bad just a country road, what was to be a short walk ended up 10km's not bad effort after a 60km bike the day before, I think the fitness is improving.
