Day 88 - Fri 15 Jun - Mangaweka to Turangi

We woke to a fine morning and the river level has dropped a lot. Yesterday we had several vehicles of locals down to check on the river including the local council ute. There was just a Juicy van in overnight with us. We got an early start (for us anyway). With no snow recently the roads were all clear and we arrived at Turangi by 11.30am. The Central Plateau mountains had a good snow cover on but the ski fields aren't open yet.

After lunch we went down the road to Tokaanu for a nostalgia trip (a swim in the hot pools we used to go to from Waiouru when we were kids). Much of the complex looks the same! Oooh - they were certainly hot and just the ticket to relax the muscles. We went over to the RSA for a meal tonight - it wasn't very busy.

Day 89 - Sat 16 Jun - Turangi

We decided to stay another day and do a catch up on the washing this morning and then had a quiet afternoon.
