Day 57 - Tues 15 May - Ranfurly
Another frosty start but not as cold this morning - the water won't be frozen over at the dump station today! We packed our lunch and went through Naseby and on to unsealed Dansey's Pass Road. There had been a huge gold mining operation at Kyeburn Diggings and the landscape reflected this. We stopped for a coffee at the Dansey's Pass Hotel (well worth a stop) and then on to the top of the Pass. It was another stunning drive (if somewhat narrow). We had our picnic lunch at the Domain in Naseby before having a look at the town's heritage buildings. Many of these have been restored or kept in good condition. We did go to the Indoor Curling Rink but no-one was playing and the stones (at 20kg) sounded a bit heavy for us to handle. It was a great setup though and they were also preparing the outdoor ice skating rinks ready for winter sports. We also did a drive by in Ranfurly where there are many examples of Art Deco buildings still in everyday use.
