Day 62 - Sun 20 May - Oamaru
Whooh! The wind is up today! This morning we took a walk around the Old Prescinct and had a cuppa in a lovely quirky café. There were lots of hockey ladies in town for a big South Island hockey tournament. We discovered more shops etc focussing on Steam Punk than the last time we were here. Ros spent a long time in a shop with heaps of wool - raw, dyed, homespun etc. and could have got really carried away! After lunch we drove north a bit to check out Silverstone Castle built on a farm. Fantastic! It's the culmination of a lifetime dream of Dot Smith and her husband Neil. We had a chat to Dot (recognised her by her pink hair) who was working in the gardens. What an energetic lady! We didn't go into the restaurant (which looked fairly busy) but did poke around the quaint shops. We got some heavy rain after tea and it was still very windy so it could be a rough night tonight.
