Day 24 - Thur 12 April - Cromwell
We needed to do a bit of shopping so we headed off to check out the op shops again. Lots of other people were doing the same - the sudden cold snap has caught some under prepared. -2'C forecast overnight again!
Day 25 - Fri 13 April - Cromwell
We woke to a chilly morning with ice on the outside of the caravan windows but warm inside, especially with the heater going. It had warmed up by the time we had packed our picnic lunch and driven up the other side of the lake to Bendigo Historic Reserve. What a great spot to explore - lots of stone ruins and even some old wagons. Not to mention bringing back a half bucket of field mushrooms to share. We had out lunch at Bendigo Reserve beside the lake. This is a freedom camping area so lots of sleeper vans and even a couple tents for the really hardy travellers. There was fresh snow up on the mountain tops after the cold night.
Later in the afternoon we went out to visit cousin Colin and his wife Jan who live near Cromwell. It was lovely to see them and learn more about their honey business. It will be time to move on towards Arrowtown tomorrow. Another cool night coming up but we have had gorgeous days so no complaints here.
