India and Nepal 2022
Najera to Santo Domingo The Camino at this point is a series of daily stages of between 12-15 miles. Today is just over 13 miles to Santo Domingo which is one of the very original Camino towns with a history dating back over 1000 years. My body is now adjusting to daily walks of this length and mentally I feel in pretty good shape. There's a routine of setting off at about 8am and stopping for a breakfast in a local village after an hour or so. And then reaching the albergue for the day in mid afternoon. Today I have been walking through more vineyards and arable farmland where the soil is rich and fertile ready for new years crops to be planted. The pathway is wide and stony and the views over the distant hills provide a reminder of the distance already travelled. Another feature of this journey is the sound of the words, 'Buen Camino' which is warm and appreciated greeting from local people to acknowledge the 'peregrinos' as they pass through. It always provides me an energy burst especially when I may be flagging a little!
