Burgos to Hornillos del Camino I said a sad goodbye to Ed and Carol over breakfast and Alan, Sherry, Margita and I headed out to the west of Burgos. Initially past a maximum security prison and then through smaller towns with a welcome bar every now and then.
Alan and Sherry are kindhearted and generous travellers and I was amazed to learn in Burgos that Alan will be 75 next birthday. If ever there was an advert for not being too old to take on new adventures, Alan and Sherry are the leading brand! I have been intrigued by the Meseta for some time. It is described as a largely featureless arid landscape with little shade and human habitation. Some travellers find the next few days tough mentally but I find it a fascinating atmospheric landscape.
The little settlement of Hornillos is like a ghost town, incredibly quiet and bypassed by any road traffic. I take a short walk after dinner where the evening sky is red in part and the day is coming to a close over the Meseta. Totally memorable.
