Kate this cover shot of the bulrushes is for you. Remember the trip of 1975. Kug and Harry your folks Rae and Tom King Mt maunganui. What a trip.
Day nine. Azofra to Redicio de Camino. My planner says 26km my pedometer says 29.8km. My body says too much.
552kms to go
Today I was walking well. Wanted to get to Granon because of something I had read. Not able to remember what. Got to Santa Dominga and was tempted to stay in the Cistercian albergue very classy by all accounts. But pressed on. Got to Granon very hot and bothered couldn't find the albergue. Went through town twice. Went in and was greeted by a slovenly alcohol smelling over familiar host. He tried to help me remove my pack by attempting to undo the breast strap. I said it was unnecessary. The. I remember this is a private albergue but charge by donation. The German girls thought he was sifty too. Long story short I put my boots back on and told him I wasn't staying. He not pleased. I felt happy that I had been brave and not put up with it. The next albergue was 4 km away.
I have grown 2 new blisters. But they still seem manageable. Last night I sat down with 8 German women who shared their pasta. In return I did the dishes they then countered with wine and chocolates. I c then got very bold and asked two English girls Sarah and Joanne if I could tag along with them into town for a drink and more to eat.
The French woman I roomed with was up at 4:30 and away by five but although I left at 8:10 we both ended up in the same albergue. Don't know what she will do tomorrow as the door is locked til 6:00.
My muscles hurt today for the first time. It was great walking and I am getting better at it but hot and I worry about getting burnt again. I am starting to peel on one shoulder. Because we are travelling east to west and the sun is high we tend to get more sun on our left side. I love the silk scarf I brought I can Superman or Lawrence of Arabia it to protect my neck or drape it nonchalantly over one shoulder.
Feeling good but feet a bit of a mess. 8:47pm tired so I will have a read put out the light and close the shutters. I was the last to arrive at 4:30. and have 10 bunk room to my self.
Sleep well

Marie Hola peregrino so great to hear your life on the trail. This is how it goes - up down and all around, every day different never knowing what you will see or find. I think the journey in starts to kick in about now the most challenging bit!! You are so wise going at your own pace - about the blisters. I put nothing on my feet just my wool socks and the hikers wool. A lot of the blister "cures" people had did a lot more harm than good. Changing socks keeping feet dry getting socks off and feet in air as soon as your not walking and not wearing anything on your feet in bed that's the advice on all the extreme tramping websites and it worked for me. Slather the sunscreen and reapply at each break. Reading what you are experiencing i'm going to do it all again some day. Love to you precious one go gently. xx
marie ooh just remembered I wore a light silk shirt open over my merino during the hottest part of the day to cover my shoulders stayed in place better than a scarf. Thank you for the poppies they are beautiful.
kiwi07 Thanks. I am learning to trust my intuition. Lay down on floor this am to look under the bed. I have never done that. My waterproof was there. Blisters I cut and antiseptic and wrap with wool in morning. They seem to heal quickly just keep getting them. Mostly no problem walking. Love you
