Day 35 Samos to Sarria. 15 km. 325 up 400 down.
Had a lovely evening went for a tour of the Benedictine monastery once a thriving community of 200 or more with 80 monks. Now ten monks and 2 novices. The monastery had a big fire in the fifties but has been repaired. Numbers in decline since then. Later we went to mass one if the monks had a very nice voice unfortunately the Abbott? Did not. I enjoyed the service very much. Took communion and the beautiful sing monk gave us a pilgrim blessing and sang the pilgrim song.
Got away early after not much sleep. Had another encounter with the fascist volunteer at the albergue. He. Greeted me with some challenge about me not speaking Spanish in Spain. True but so aggressive. I have a vacant don't understand look for people like him. This morning he attacked a poor Irish man turning on the lights 55 of 60 residents had already gone. I turned on the light at 7:15 as we were asked to depart by 7:30.
Lack of sleep but was pepped up by music with breakfast.
Usual thing noisy late pilgrims and quiet but intense early pilgrims.
Today's walk was lovely. Lots of shade again and lots of farming. Really pleasant and finished by 1:00 had lunch and found an albergue with a room of our own. Off for pilgrim meal.
