Day 32. Vega de Valcarce to O'Cebreiro. Ascent of 770m 16 km distance. Day warm and pleasant.
On leaving the albergue Santa Maria de Magdalena 26€ for tiny twin room we again passed the beautiful vegetable garden. Really a work of art and effort.
The first two villages passed reasonably effortlessly and then we commenced the climb. Described as steep but really ok I had many puff stops but all well. No blisters and no sore legs. A steep climb in NZ usually means be prepared to use your hands.
We passed the man with the horses who will let you ride up for 30€. We fancied the walk (well Hugh says I'm the boss) and honestly the pillock factor looked quite high. The riders caught us up when I was drying my socks and airing my feet (an at least twice a day routine) and none of them looked happy.
Hugh says it was an ancient road and a steady and demanding climb. We arrived at O'Cebreiro at 2:30 in good spirits and booked into a hotel. The Xunta Albergue tho newish had 106 bunks and I have done that and H doesn't care to revisit his youth.
About to go out for a meal. Gosh it's tough. Hope to upload photos. I am still loving it.
