Today we explored Broome with Chris and Jordie. We drove out to beautiful Gantheaume Point and onto the beach. The sand is hard packed here and easy to drive on. Also you are limited to only drive a distance of 100m up the beach at this location or discover the wrath of the agro Ranger! We drove back onto the main road which immediately turned into a corrugated dirt road towards the lighthouse. At this location there are dinosaur foot prints in the rock surface visible at low tide and also there is the remnant of Anastasia's Pool that was created and cut into the rock over looking the ocean by the lighthouse keeper for his arthritic wife Anastasia to bath in. She died in her early 50's, but it is a beautiful story and a spectacular location!
We drove further down the red sandy dirt road to various outlooks, it is such a rugged coastline, certainly very unforgiving to the unwary seaman.
The dirt road terminated at the main road into the Port. Wow, the Port has been built at the most beautiful part of Broome in my opinion! Chris took some spectacular panoramic photos of a storm coming over, the dark skies in contrast to the aqua coloured ocean was really beautiful! After a tour through China Town and a cuppa at Kool Spot Cafe we headed back to The Frangipani for a cool off and an evening BBQ at Chris and Jordie's unit. A relaxing end to a beautiful day!
