This morning we set off for El Questro Station. We travelled north for approximately 50km on the Victoria Highway before turning left and heading west on the Gibb River Road. We first visited Emma Gorge but unfortunately we were not allowed to walk the Gorge as it was closing early in the day due to the heat! So we set off for El Questro. Upon arrival we paid for a day permit to be allowed to traverse the enormous cattle station, being given free range anywhere except for the El Questro Resort which is out of bounds for the unwealthy. It was disappointing as it was something we really wanted to see and photograph however it is a very private resort for those who can afford it! We decided to visit Zebadee Springs first as it was also closing early to the unwealthy due to the wealthy having a private tour in the afternoon! Zebadee Springs is only a short drive on the main dirt road and a short walk in. Wow it is so beautiful! There is a series of small pools to relax in, it really is a special place. We then decided to visit The El Questro Gorge. To get there we had to cross a deep water crossing with an unstable sandy and rocky bottom, the water was lapping the bonnet and when we got to the other side we found that water had entered into the cabin area of the Zuki. Hmmm, a bit deeper than I thought!!
When we got to the car park we spoke to a family that was leaving and they advised that it is a 2 hour walk to the Gorge and the walk is quite difficult, taking longer with a small child, but the trek is well worth it! We set off on our hike but unfortunately we soon realised that we weren't prepared enough for the long trek to the Gorge do we reluctantly turned back!
We decided to visit the lookouts around the Station with one of the lookouts requiring low range 4wd due to it being a very steep climb to the top. I haven't done this much four wheel driving in years, it was heaps of fun and the Zuki handled it all with ease!
We drove out to Chamborline Gorge which is the gorge that the El Questro Resort looks over. We tried to get photos of the resort but unfortunately it was too far away to get quality photos with our little camera.
We had a great time exploring El Questro. The campground was beautiful and green, we would've loved to have camped there but it was very expensive, there were no powered sites and it was not possible to use the generator to run the air-conditioning there. To uncomfortable to sleep in the heat without air cond! Talk about soft!
